Red Sky Salon opened in 2019 in Burin, NL. Owned and operated by Bailey and her husband, Edward, they decided to move back to the Burin Peninsula after living in St. John’s. Bailey decided to open a small in-home studio to “work part-time”.
Quickly the demand grew, and Kimberly showed interest in joining Bailey back on the BP. She was hired because of her talent and work ethic, and it was put to the test immediately; before her first day, Red Sky and every salon was closed for the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Hundreds of people missed their appointments during the 3-month closure, when faced with reopening Kimberly dove in headfirst and had an immediate clientele.
As the next few years went by, Red Sky’s loyal following grew, and the ability to meet the demand was again tested. After looking at various places and possibilities, the Hynes Fam once again decided to expand and purchased (the very run-down) 40 Queen Street. After a complete renovation, Red Sky Salon moved to Marystown along with two businesses, Touch and Glow Medical Aesthetics and The Spa Space.
Red Sky Salon’s most recent team member, Aleasha, came on board in 2024. Her energy and expertise are the perfect addition to our team. With three stylists with an array of skills, Red Sky Salon and 40 Queen Street have become the area’s first all-in-one luxury Self Care Specialists.
Everyone is welcome at Red Sky Salon, and we are so happy you’ve stopped by to say hi!
A huge thank you to all who helped during the renovation of 40 Queen street, but especially to Bill Hynes who spent countless hours making this dream a reality. Forever thankful, and if you’re lucky you can see him pop by from time to time.
At Red Sky Salon, we believe in creating a warm and accepting environment for everyone, ensuring that each visit is a personalized and enjoyable experience for all. Your unique style is our priority, and our talented team is dedicated to making you feel confident and beautiful, no matter who you are.
I started hairdressing before my formal education. My grandmother, Audrey, was a skilled hairdresser who taught me everything I wanted to learn, from pin-curls to cuts, even as a young child, she’d always be up for teaching me. My mom, was always open to experimentation and even sported some of my first haircuts. After trying various paths in post-secondary education, I had a pivotal moment during a nail appointment. When I mentioned my interest in hair school to my dad, he encouraged me, saying, “It’s about time you said something like that.”
In January 2009, I enrolled at Woodford Training Centre in CBS, and by February, I was assisting at Signature Salon in St. John’s. I quickly fell in love with the industry and the connections I formed with the people in my chair. Helping others is my true passion; when someone leaves feeling better about themselves, it’s my biggest motivator.
In 2013, I became a local educator with Goldwell, the same year I welcomed my first son. My love for the brand led me to The Hair Factory, where my career flourished. Goldwell has opened many doors for me, allowing me to connect with the community and expand my knowledge, fueling my passion for the industry even further. I’ve had the opportunity to attend trainings across Canada and the U.S., including cities like Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Las Vegas, Orlando, Scottsdale, and London in the UK.
My first love is my family—my husband Edward and our two boys. We live in Burin with our dog, Rusty.
I have been a hairstylist for just over 7 years. My passion for the industry started when I was just a young girl. My curiosity of different styling methods grew with each passing year. From the ages of 2-6 you would always find me putting different buckles and clips in the dogs fur or sitting on top of the arm chair in the living room putting whatever I could in my dads hair. As I reached my preteen years I would spend countless hours watching different videos trying to learn new things whether it be curling my hair with a straightener, waving my hair or looking up the latest makeup trends and making an attempt of each style I found.
Once I became old enough to decide which career path I wanted to take, hairstyling was always in the back of my mind. I researched different careers while I worked full time but ultimately nothing caught my eye. So I finally decided to take a leap in the hairstyling world and applied to our local Keyin College. After completing their program in 2017, gaining confidence and skills I knew that I had made the right decision.
From various cutting classes, product introductions this field of work is endless. So happy I’m able to make connections with people, help them feel their best and create something new every day.
